Imageon That: 3D-Accelerated Cellphones

OK, so we've looked at AMD's Imageon 3D chip for cellphones before; that headline pun, alas, demanded life. The chipmaker did have the thing on show this week at CTIA, however, giving the world its first look at mockup phones carrying the low-power gaming GPU.
Larger than normal phones and, apparently, having a "prototype look to them," the Imageon 238X was shown running a smooth-looking demo of Sudeki, an Xbox game, on a handset with a 320x240 screen. This reminds me of my 1996 Quake days. Imageon can also decode DVD-quality video and sends whatever it's doing to a picture-in-picture box when a call comes in. Sudeki at 80x60? Good luck!

Apple's iPhone releasing on June 11?

According to CNET, Cingular [aka, the new AT&T] has "confirmed" June 11 as the release date for Apple's iPhone. Keep in mind that confirmation in this case is unofficial as it supposedly comes from a front-line sales support person. See, after a call to Cingular's customer service, CNET was transfered to sales where they were told of the magical date. Of course, all this makes perfect sense as the 11th also marks the kickoff of Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference where Steve and Co have been proven keen to announce their wares before.

HP StorageWorks Media Vault Pro

Late last year, HP hit us up with its first venture into the world of NAS, and just as Q1 winds down and Q2 impatiently begins, the outfit is hoping to attract the attention of up and coming small business owners. The StorageWorks Media Vault Pro is one of the dozen or so products briefly (and we do mean briefly) introduced in its latest small biz lineup, and aside from the elegant image we left to stare at, we really don't know much else. Reportedly, the drive ratchets up to 1TB in size, will ring up just under a grand, and provides the obligatory "expandable network storage and enhanced protection services" that all the competitors do, but alas, we've no idea when HP plans on launching these things into hectic startup offices.

Terratec Cinergy XS TV card

Product : Terratec Cinergy XS TV card

Price : RM550

A TV cunningly disguised as a memory stick – only the flaming great aerial trailing from its backside gives it away

Ahh the halcyon days of portable tellies – tiny Casio screens, dodgy tuning dials and stonking great telescopic aerials that could bring down low flying aircraft.Strangely they never really caught on in a big way but now there is another option for TV on the go: the laptop USB tuner.

This one, fresh in at John Lewis, is particularly pocketable at barely bigger than a memory stick. It's strangely aesthetically pleasing too; at least compared to the black brick designs we’re used to.

On board is a Freeview DVB-T tuner and good old analogue for when digital reception dips. Speaking of which, it comes with both a mini portable aerial and an adaptor to plug into the wall for when you're back at base or near a handy hotel room socket.Surprisingly fully featured, it packs Teletext, timeshifting and a DVR limited only by the size of your lappy's hard drive. A full remote (several times larger than the actual device) is also included along with PowerCinema 4.0 for burning recordings to DVD. Oh, and it's Vista certified too. read more
